I know full well the healing power of a regular yoga practice, but I’ve got to say, it is working super quick for me. Lately, I’ve been having a little bit of heart burn that wakes me up soon after I fall asleep, as an uncomfortable burning in the stomach. So, for my yoga practice, I turned to Mr. B.K.S. Iyengar and his book, “the Path to holistic health”, and looked up acidity. There was a whole list of referrals, in the back, and so, I began my practice. On my list of “prescribed asanas” or postures was some of the very things we do in every yoga class, plus a few restorative postures as well. Poses such as triangle, side angle, and half moon were held for 10 slow breaths on each side. Then I moved into supported Childs pose, and an all time favorite, reclining hero’s pose, (which is NOT a favorite!!).
Yet, this practice worked so beautifully on eliminating my acidity. I slept like a baby that night, with no disturbing heart burn. This may be surprising to you and even unknown the health benefits of a yoga practice. Everyday conditions such as hernias, fibroids, ulcers, and even worse health conditions such as high blood pressure, cancer, and heart disease are all listed in his book with referrals to asanas or postures. Yes, Yoga does work indeed. BUT!! You need to keep these things in mind……..
- Yoga practice is like water washing away stone. It takes some time for these conditions to arise in your body, and it will take some time to heal them.
- Yoga should be done daily
- Yoga practice should be without gaps (no stopping/starting, it works best done consistently).
Yoga has saved me, and that is why I do what I do everyday. I help people live more comfortably in their body, and who knows? might even heal some people.
See you on the mat,
