Kindness Principle

Kindness Principle

We all want good lives.  We all want to live Long Lives, and we also want many blessings to come our way.  Well, there is an easy way to do this.

  1.  Practice yoga everyday
  2.  Be as kind as you can, as often as you can, to as many people as you can.

Pretty easy huh?  Let me say, this does not guarantee that you will live to be 100, but it will probably get you closer than any other method out there.  We should be adopting kindness as a principle, to live our lives well, but often it’s tough.  Lets look at some examples……..

  • You got a thrashing at work for a mistake.   It’s not really your fault.  You complain to your coworkers, friends, and family how you were treated.  Understanding is hard in this situation, but if you hit the pause button before you complain, you might see some very valid points your boss was trying to get across.  You can also practice kindness, knowing your boss is human, and sometimes has bad days as well.  Choose to forgive and move on, work on yourself and stop complaining.
  • You are super late for a soccer game for your child.  It’s your turn to bring snacks.  Rushing, you get in your car, and drive like a bat out of hell.  Yelling at everyone to get out of the way, and no way are you going to cut in front of me.  Pause.  Breathe.  Use kindness as you let a driver in front of you, when traffic merges.  The more you do this, the less stressed you will feel, and be on time to boot!
  • Once again, the holiday’s are coming up.  You feel stressed thinking about all the extra stuff you will have to do.  During this time, you are short because you feel no-one in the house is helping you out.  Pause.  Breathe.  Maybe this is the year you will simplify things, take an easier route.  Decide to spread kindness instead of gifts.

I think most of us do a decent job of being kind most of the time.  But I can always use improvement.  Look at the little ways that disharmony comes in, and you don’t want to be kind.  This is the BEST time to be kind, and when it really matters.  For instance, when people are asking for money, but money is very tight now, you can’t possibly give????  This is the time to give, to practice being Kind.

I’ve got to say, that being Kind towards others was not a guiding principle in my life.  I drove like a banshee, cursed, complained, swore.  Now after many years of yoga, I am changed, and I can say that for sure.  If it can make me a kind driver, wonder what it can do for your life?  Although, I still swear on a rare occasion, like when you bang your toe, but I’ll bet that will soon disappear!!

See you on the mat,

Paula
